I am not a student at the Erasmus University Rotterdam; can I sign up?

Yes! Our courses are for anyone interested in studying either Dutch or Mandarin. You do not have to be a university student.

How does it work with the payment?

By applying via our website you can fulfill the payment using iDeal. Also, payments can be fulfilled by paying by cash or via debit card in our office N3‐07. Payments need to be fulfilled before the first class.

When are the lessons provided?

The lessons are provided on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during two time slots: 17:00 – 19:00 and 19:15 – 21:15. The exact time and day is subject to availability of both you and the teacher.

Where are the lessons provided?

The classes are held on Campus Woudestein of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Most classes are taught in V-­Building on campus. The V-­Building is the red building between Polak building and Van der Goot building.

Where can I give my availability?

When do I get my definitive schedule?

What is the method used for teaching Dutch?

The Dutch course is based on the book ‘Contact!’. This method is developed by the Radboud University Nijmegen.

What is the method used for teaching Mandarin?

The Mandarin course is based on the book ‘Boya Chinese’. This method is developed by the Peking University and follows the HSK levels, which is the standardized test for non-­native speakers.

Do I need to buy my own books?

No, the course fee includes the selected chapters of the book and workbook for the level you enrolled in.

How can I apply for a higher level?

When you already have some knowledge of Dutch or Mandarin, you can apply for a higher level of the language course. You can do this either by taking an intake test or by showing a certificate that you have acquired at another language institute.

What is an intake test?

Our intake test is to determine your proficiency in either Dutch or Mandarin. The exam consists of a written and an oral part focusing on both grammar and vocabulary. The written exam lasts for a maximum of 1 hour, while the oral exam lasts for a maximum of 15 minutes. There is no need to study for the intake test.

How can I take an intake test?

The intake test has to be taken before the start of the first class.

What is the special speaking session?

The special speaking session is an interactive field trip organized in the middle of the trimester for the Dutch course. During the special speaking session you will have the opportunity to practice your Dutch oral skills with native speakers and you will learn more about the Dutch culture.

How much does the special speaking session cost?

This varies per level, as most costs are on your own expenses. However, the costs are minimal depending on your own choices.

Will I receive an official HSK diploma (for Mandarin) when I pass my exam?

You do not receive an official HSK diploma. However, you will receive a certificate signed by your teacher or course manager of CSA-­‐EUR.

What level do I need to pass in order to be able to pass the “Inburgeringsexamen” in order to become naturalized?

Our courses starting from Beginners 1 until Pre-­Intermediate cover the content required by the Dutch government for the “Inburgeringsexamen”. This means that you have to take 4 language courses, if you do not have any prior knowledge of the Dutch language.

What is the trial class?

During the trial class you can have a sneak peak of our language courses. One of our teachers provides a demonstration class of our language courses. Before the beginning of each trimester, two trial classes are organized. One focuses on the beginner levels and is aimed at people who have no knowledge of Dutch or Mandarin. The other class is for anyone who already has some knowledge of the language.

When are the trial classes?

The exact dates are on the webpages of our language courses. Follow CSA-­‐EUR on Facebook for updates regarding the location and date of our trial classes.

How do I sign up for the trial classes?

You can sign up for the trial class by clicking on ‘Attend’ on Facebook.
